Beat the Heat at a Public Beach - Where are the swimming holes?

Grab your beach bag, blanket and plan a trip to a local swimming hole. Make sure to bring your towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, inflatables and plenty of beach toys as Jefferson County has some wonderful spots to enjoy the sun, sand and water.

Fort Worden State Park

Follow Cherry Street to this beautiful park in Port Townsend.
A great place to build a sand castle, explore the underwater park with your scuba gear or launch a small boat. Canteen store and restrooms across the street and plenty of hiking and biking around the park.

Quilcene Swimming Beach

Alongside the Quilcene Marina is a wonderful Hood Canal beach.
A swimming platform to use when the tide is in and plenty of beach for when the tide is out. Remember to bring your beach chair because the mountain and water view is fantastic and this beach is usually warmer and less crowded than beaches in Port Townsend.

Gibbs Lake County Park

Located off West Valley Road.
Parking is limited at this county day-use park and you have to carry your gear, but the sandy beach has a soft bottom and fairly quick drop-off. The water is colored by minerals, so wash your bathing suits and towels quickly when you return home.

Lake Leland County Park

Just off Highway 101 between Quilcene and Discovery Bay.
There is lots of park shoreline to swim from and the water's warm, compared to Port Townsend Bay. A great place for little kids.
